Girls golf: CdM’s Schauppner and McCormick advance to championships
DESERT HOT SPRINGS - The postseason is a time when seniors are
expected to step up their play. Corona del Mar High’s Allison Schauppner
and Taylor McCormick, the only seniors on the Sea Kings’ girls golf team,
answered the call Tuesday.
The CdM duo finished in the top 40 at the CIF individual finals at
Mission Lakes Country Club to advance to the Southern California
championships, scheduled Tuesday at the SCGA Members’ Club at Rancho
California in Murrieta.
Schauppner shot 7-over-par 79, including four birdies, while McCormick
carded an 80. The cut was 84.
“(Schauppner and McCormick) didn’t get a whole lot of notoriety
because they played behind (Pacific Coast League and CIF champion)
University,” CdM Coach Mike Starkweather said. “But, today they just came
out and they were making their shots. Only one University girl beat them
out and that was (Angela Won). They’re peaking at the right time, which
is exactly what a coach is asking for.”
