A Nevada woman remains in custody on suspicion of attempting to kill a

Huntington Beach man in a Christmas Day attack.

Lt. Preston Linker, of the Huntington Beach Police Department, said

officers booked Arlene Gable, a 66-year-old resident of Henderson, Nev.,

after she allegedly shot her husband, Jerry Gable, at 11:40 a.m. Dec. 25.

Jerry Gable, 62, was shot in face at his home in the 6000 block of

Softwind Drive following an argument with his wife, who was in town

visiting relatives for the holidays, police said, adding that the couple

had an estranged relationship.

Officers received a disturbance call about the incident and arrived on

scene where they took Arlene Gable into custody.

Jerry Gable was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his

injuries and is listed in stable condition.

Seal Beach woman killed in car accident

A female motorist died Monday when her car careened into a signal post

at the intersection of Warner Avenue and Algonquin Street in Huntington

Beach.

The woman, 70-year-old Martha Edwards of Seal Beach, was driving west

along Warner Avenue in a white 1995 Honda Civic when her car struck the

street’s north curb and crossed into the intersection with Algonquin

Street, said Sgt. John Cottriel of the Huntington Beach Police

Department.

A witness told police the car flew through the intersection at about

45 miles per hour before it slammed into a traffic signal post at the

northwest corner of Algonquin Street, authorities said.

The Seal Beach woman was pronounced dead at the scene and it is

unknown whether alcohol was a factor in the crash, Cottriel said, adding

that an investigation is continuing.
