Newport Beach libraries will host “A Visit to Earth,” a musical
mystery radio show for children entering first through sixth grades, on
July 16, 18 and 19. Troubadour Ken Frawley will accompany himself on his
12-string guitar for the program, which is part of Books and Beyond:
Take Me to Your Reader, the children’s summer reading program.
The free show will be presented at 10:30 a.m. July 16 in the Newport
Beach Central Library’s Friends Meeting Room, 1000 Avocado Ave.; 3 p.m.
July 18 at Mariners Branch Library, 2005 Dover Dr., Newport Beach; and
10:30 a.m. July 19 at the Balboa Branch Library, 100 E. Balboa Blvd.

Brochure of OCC arts events available
Orange Coast College has released a 32-page brochure of its performing
arts activities for the 2001-2002 season, which begins on Sept. 15. The
brochures are available for free at OCC’s Community Education Office,

Metronomes needed for eclectic event
Organizers of the third annual Eclectic Orange Festival are collecting
100 metronomes for the Festival’s exhibit at the Orange County Museum of
Art, set to open in October and titled “You Are Hear: Music Machines at
the Museum.” Donated metronomes will be a part of Gyorgy Ligeti’s “Poeme
Symphonique” for 100 metronomes. Donors will receive recognition at the
exhibit and free admission to the museum.
The Philharmonic Society will accept mechanical, not electronic,
metronomes beginning July 9. They will be returned in November.

Second set of summer musical theater classes
The Musical Theater Academy of Orange County will hold a second
session of summer classes for kids. The first ends Friday. The second
runs Monday through July 19 and will culminate in productions of “How to
Eat Like a Child and Other Lessons in Not Being a Grown-up.”
