A search in the sea is still on for a 33-year-old man who was reported

missing Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Donald Jason Huntress was swimming in Emerald Bay near Laguna Beach

when he was last seen about 3:15 p.m. Huntress and some of his friends

had anchored their 18-foot Boston Whaler about 200 yards off the

shoreline, officials said.

Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol divers, two state lifeguard

divers and a helicopter searched the area Wednesday till dark. The search

resumed Thursday morning about 10 a.m., said Jon Fleischman, spokesman

for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Harbor Patrol deputies searched with a fire boat, a patrol boat and

two department watercraft, as well as a dive team.

The crew stopped about 3 p.m. Thursday, but Fleischman said Harbor

Patrol deputies on patrol at night will keep the search alive till the

divers return at 8 a.m. Friday.
