Elmer Biggerstaff is the new president of Rotary Club of
Newport-Balboa, Tom Birch of Newport Beach Sunrise, Philip Arst of
Newport-Irvine and Michael Lawler of South Coast Metro. Some Rotary Clubs
have demotions, while others have promotions, depending upon their
traditions as they change officers.
Serving with Biggerstaff as officers in the Rotary Club of
Newport-Balboa, chartered in 1939, are Roger McGonegal, president-elect;
Jim Sirkin, vice president; Bob Krone, treasurer; and Art Walton, Todd
Anderson, Andy Campbell, Russ Williams and Frank Anderson as directors.
Newport-Balboa will hold its demotion night Wednesday, when it will
roast Wendell Sawyer, the outgoing president, at a dinner at the Bahia
Corinthian Yacht Club.
Serving with Birch as officers of the Newport Beach Sunrise Club are
Jeff Heileson, president-elect; Rob Williams, secretary; Calvin Wallace,
treasurer; and Lisa Miller Strunk, Syd Lucas, William Wengler, Fred
Hernandez, David Clark and Craig Kennedy as directors. Birch replaces Ron
Millar, who had a stellar year and was demoted June 15.
Newport-Irvine president Arst will be assisted by Robert Ramsay,
president-elect; Bettie Lou Sechrist, secretary; Junius Jaubert,
treasurer; and Jerry Rekers, Lynn-Marie Palmer, Jim Coleman, Edward
Smith, Henry Catrow and Steve Cronkling as directors. Arnold Blaine
served as president as the club grew in membership in 2000-01 (it now
totals 103).
Lawler, back for his second stint as president of the South Coast
Metro Club, will be assisted by Lisa Allen, secretary; Jim Washington,
treasurer; and Clayton Shurley, Dale Bixler, Howard Kubota, Teresa
Sasnett, Judith Plates and Derek Mason as directors. Sasnett served as
president of the Wednesday morning breakfast club in 2000-01.
WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF SERVICE CLUBS: Jeannine Carter, sponsored by
Jim Dickson, and Kathy Pham, sponsored by Joel Carlson, joined the
Newport Beach-Corona del Mar Kiwanis Club.

7:30 a.m.: The Newport Beach Sunrise Rotary Club will meet at Five
Crowns Restaurant.
6:30 p.m.: The Costa Mesa-Newport Harbor Lions Club will meet at the
Costa Mesa Golf and Country Club.
WEDNESDAY:
7:15 a.m.: The South Coast Metro Rotary Club will meet at the Center
Club, and the Newport Harbor Kiwanis Club will meet at the University
Athletic Club.
Noon: The Orange Coast Exchange Club will meet at the Bahia Corinthian
Yacht Club.
5:30 p.m.: The Rotary Club of Newport-Balboa will meet at the Bahia
Corinthian Yacht Club for a demotion party for its outgoing president

7 a.m.: The Costa Mesa-Orange Coast Breakfast Lions Club will meet at
Mimi’s Cafe.
Noon: The Kiwanis Club of Costa Mesa will meet at the Holiday Inn, the
Newport Beach-Corona del Mar Kiwanis Club will meet at the Bahia
Corinthian Yacht Club, the Exchange Club of Newport Harbor will meet at
the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum, and the Newport Irvine Rotary Club
will meet at the Irvine Marriott for a program by James Sievers titled
