CdM sweeps Mesa
Corona del Mar High’s cross country forces proved equal to the task
on a hot and dry Costa Mesa High course Thursday, the boys winning,
23-24, and the girls taking a 20-41 decision as both teams improved to
2-0 in the Pacific Coast League.
Irwin Salas of Costa Mesa ruled the roost with a 16:22 clocking, but
CdM went 2-3-4 to maintain a winning depth, right down to a nonscoring
17:38 for freshman John Salinas, who was 11th.
The 2-3-4 combination consisted of Dustin Hodges (16:30), Blake
Dillion (16:43) and Kevin Artz (16:49).
Julie Allen and Becky Cummins led CdM’s girls with a 1-2 finish in
19:23 and 19:28.
Corona’s only real problem came later with a transportation situation
making it a long afternoon for the Sea Kings.
Costa Mesa fell to 1-1 in boys competition, and the girls are 0-2.
