Geehr signs with Cardinal
NEWPORT BEACH - Carly Geehr, a two-time CIF swimming champion in
the 500-yard freestyle and 200 individual medley at Mayfield High before
transferring to Newport Harbor, who has been plagued by a shoulder
injury, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Stanford
University.
The 16-year-old senior, a silver medalist at 14 at the Pan-Am Games,
is still undergoing intensive physical therapy after shoulder surgery
this past summer in hopes of tightening up a rotator interval. She has
hopes of competing in the Senior Nationals in March, and anticipates
participation with Newport Harbor’s swim team in the spring.
Other options were Princeton and California, but Stanford, and U.S.
Olympics swim coach Richard Quick won out.
