College men’s basketball: Vanguard drops home opener
COSTA MESA - The Vanguard University men’s basketball team opened
its season with a 65-52 nonconference loss to visiting Cal Poly Pomona
Friday.
Vanguard trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half before
attempting a comeback in the final five minutes. Shane McKim converted a
lay up with 26 seconds left to pull the Lions within three points, 25-22.
Cal Poly scored the first six points to open the second to take a
31-22 lead. Vanguard responded with six points, but Cal Poly took charge,
leading by 18 points with less than eight minutes left in the game.
McKim had a game-high 17 points while Damion Morbley contributed with
16 points and 12 rebounds for the Lions.
