Finals today
COSTA MESA - Unseeded Chad Carlson of the United States and New
Zealand’s Daniel Willman, the No. 4 seed, square off today for the
singles championship at the inaugural $15,000 Costa Mesa Pro Classic at
the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
They’ll start soon after noon following semifinals victories on
Saturday.
Carlson dispatched Wesley Whitehouse in the semifinals, 6-2, 0-6, 7-5,
and Willman handled Jason Cook, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6.
In today’s doubles final at 11 a.m. it will be Australia’s Matthew
Breen and Cook of the U.S. teaming up to challenge New Zealand’s Mark
Nielsen and Australia’s Anthony Ross, who entered the tournament as the
No. 2 seed.
The fourth-seeded Breen-Cook tandem defeated top-seeded Ashley Fisher
and Kyle Spencer, 7-6, 6-4; and Nielsen and Ross advanced with a 7-6, 6-3
victory over Jeff Laski and Ramsey Smith.
Today’s singles champion wins $1,950 and the runner-up collects
$1,350. The semifinals losers pocketed $720.
