Briefly in the news
A Costa Mesa man was killed early Sunday when the motorcycle he was
driving crashed into a guard rail on the connector from the southbound
Costa Mesa Freeway to the southbound San Diego Freeway in Costa Mesa.
Paul James Hill, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:24 a.m.
after suffering “blood-forced trauma to the chest,” Larry Esslinger,
deputy supervising coroner of the Orange County Coroner’s office.
Hill was driving a 1989 Yamaha in the No. 5 lane about 1:20 a.m. when
he made an unsafe turn and hit the guardrail, said California Highway
Patrol Sgt. Joe Reyes.
“[Hill] was ejected and struck the center divider, suffering fatal
injuries,” Reyes said. “It appears no other vehicles were involved in the
crash.”
