Agreement reached on El Toro lawsuit
Proponents and opponents of the Orange County Central Park and Nature
Preserve Initiative have settled a lawsuit, resulting in the elimination
of the rebuttal arguments that appear in the voters’ pamphlet.
The settlement of a Dec. 27 lawsuit filed by Buena Park Mayor Patsy
Marshall came Wednesday. The Newport Beach-based Airport Working Group’s
political action committee signed on to the suit.
The suit had accused supporters of the initiative, known as Measure W,
of making false and misleading statements in the argument.
County voters are set to go to the polls March 5 to decide whether to
rezone the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station for a park. Measure A, passed
in 1994, laid down the base’s airport-friendly zoning.
