Girls basketball: Mesa suffers shooting slump

VILLA PARK - The Costa Mesa High girls basketball team shot 11 of

44 from the field and fell to host Villa Park, 46-32, in nonleague action

Thursday.

The Mustangs (6-9), who fell behind 17-4 in the first quarter, were

led by junior Rhondi Naff and her 12 points.

“We actually cut (the deficit) to seven, 27-20,” Mesa Coach Jim Weeks

said. “But we just couldn’t get any closer. Eleven of 44 shooting, 25% is

not going to win very many games for you.”

Costa Mesa returns to action Tuesday at 7 p.m., when the Mustangs open

Pacific Coast League play at University.
