Newport Harbor Baseball Association: Bronco’s Reds on fire
The Newport Harbor Baseball Association’s Reds maintained their
undefeated ways and improved to 6-0 on the season after a 13-3 win over
the Diamondbacks in a Bronco Division game Saturday at Mariners Park.
Spencer Richley, Eric Holland and Jeffrey Fruhm led the Reds’ red-hot
hitting attack, as each went 3 for 4. Wes Parks ignited a sixth-inning
rally, which produced eight runs and secured the Reds’ win.
Nick Svendsen turned in three innings of work on the mound and struck
out four batters, while Troy Stebir went two innings with three
strikeouts.
In other Bronco action:
Giants 11, Red Sox 7 - The Giants’ Drew Littlefair produced much
fanfare, delivering three hits and six RBIs. Clayton Baker, Miles
Christian and Justin Faber also contributed key hits for the Giants.
Pitchers Brock Schuler and Trey LaGrandeur combined for eight strikeouts
for the Giants, while Pete Hapke also played solid defense.
In Pinto National Division action: The Astros took the field to play
the Marlins. The game was primarily a defensive battle. Good pitching
from Astros Zack Friedman and Cole Blower helped set up several terrific
plays by Brice Manning, Jack Hadley, and Grant Wensley.
Adam Kinder precisely hit Steven Michaelson with a pinpoint throw for
an out to get a runner headed for second base.
Jordan Desguin, Christian Ochoa and Tynan Yanaga led the Astros in
hitting.
In Pinto American Division action: The Yankees and Mariners produced
highlights for their fans. The Yankees’ Chase Kapana slammed two home
runs and, on defense, he caught a fly ball. Mariners pitcher Blake Pender
fielded and turned two outs at first base in one inning.
Clay Smith contributed with great field work, resulting in two outs,
while Jacob Steiner pounded out a bases-clearing triple.
