Community college men’s golf: Pirates maintain best start in five
years
SANTA ANA - The Orange Coast College men’s golf team swept through
the visiting Orange Empire Conference competition (Irvine Valley,
Cuyamaca and Cypress), posting a 378 team score on par-70 at Santa Ana
Country Club Wednesday.
Lou Carrasco, with 74, was the low man for the steady and surging
Pirates, who are 18-1, 10-0 in the OEC.
“We just seem to be bringing everything together,” said OCC Coach
Barry Wallace, who is in his fifth year. “This is the best record since
I’ve been coach. Even our bottom guys are scoring well. We have some
tough teams coming up ahead.”
Pirates Frederik Svanberg (75), Brock Noteboom (75), Kelly Wicks (76)
and Eric Moore (78) also delivered crucial contributions for victories
over the three OEC teams, including Irvine Valley which was dealt its
first conference loss of the season.
IVC finished second in the four-way match with 382, while Cuyamaca
scored 386, and Cypress 408.
