Newport Beach Little League: McCormick’s two homers, eight RBIs
power Mariners over Reds
NEWPORT BEACH - Andrew McCormick belted two home runs and collected
eight RBIs to bring the Mariners back to defeat the Reds in a AA Newport
Beach Little League game.
Ben Greiner assisted the offensive attack with two hits, while Cort
Hastings struck out five in two innings.
David Moore’s bat and shut out pitching by Matt Livingston powered the
Reds to get up, 8-0.
In other AA play:
* Mariners 13, Dodgers 9 - The Mariners’ offense clicked as Ben
Greiner (3 for 3) and Bryce Ashton each homered in the win.
Ashton’s three-run homer broke the game open in the fourth. Nick
Treadway had two hits and three RBIs for the Mariners in the win.
Jason Dillion pitched two strong innings, while Cort Hastings struck
out the side in the last inning to clinch the win.
Chip Zucker (three hits) and Nick Curci (two hits) powered the
Dodgers’ attack.
* Red Sox 10, Braves 4 - Starting hurler Brent Lawson pitched a
scoreless three innings, striking out six, while Matt Berry and Clark
Cashion staved off the Braves’ bats for the final three innings to clinch
the win for the Red Sox in the team’s final regular season game before
the playoffs begin.
Taylor Ross, David Leguay, Jonathan Metcalfe and Brandon McHugh hit
well for the Red Sox, which open the playoffs next week against the
Dodgers.
