Oilers name surfing MVPs
The Huntington Beach High surf program, which earlier this month won
the 2002 California Interscholastic Surf Federation championship, had
seven members share MVP honors at a team banquet this week.
The four members of the boys’ championship team who were named MVP
included captain Brad Ettinger seniors Erik Trapschuh and Willie “Big
Red” Safreed, and next year’s team captain, Brett Simpson.
A fifth, standout Darren Moody, was named bodyboarder MVP.
Two members of the girls’ team shared the MVP award, which went to
All-Star champ Eva Lewington and Laura Roberts.
The team banquet featured Polynesian dancers and special guests Aaron
Pai of Huntington Surf and Sport and Brett Barnes of Duke’s Restaurant.
