Osuna wins Greco title
Huntington Beach’s Bryan Osuna returned to Surf City with a first
place finish he earned at last weekend’s Greco Cadet Championships held
at Lemoore High School.
It was the third state wrestling championship this year for Osuna, who
is nearing the end of his freshman year at Calvary Chapel High.
Osuna also won the Cadet State Freestyle Championship in the 15-16
division and the Junior State Freestyle Championship in the 17-19
division.
During the high school season, Osuna, competing at 103 pounds, was the
only freshman finalist at this year’s CIF Southern Section Masters
Championships. He lost to eventual state champion, senior Angel Wong. The
two were former teammates when they wrestled for the Terminators club
wrestling team several years ago.
Osuna also was the only freshman from the Southern Section to advance
to the state high school championships, one of six freshman in all
sections of CIF to qualify for the state tournament and one of three
freshman to medal at the tournament.
He was a finalist at the CIF Southern Section Championships and became
Calvary Chapel’s second freshman medalist since the 1990 season.
At the conclusion of the Greco Cadet Tournament, Osuna was selected to
the Cadet national team and will be competing at the Cadet National
Championships in July. Last year, he finished third in the tournament and
earned All-American honors.
