Police arrest suspected bank robber
-- Deepa Bharath
Police arrested a 26-year-old man Tuesday who they allege robbed a
Costa Mesa bank on the morning of June 7, officials said.
Rajine Omar Goode of Costa Mesa entered the Costa Mesa Federal Credit
Union bank in the 2700 block of Harbor Boulevard about 9:45 a.m. June 7,
displayed a knife, jumped the counter and removed money from the cash
drawers, police said.
An employee followed the robber as he ran out of the bank into the
parking lot and drove away, noting the license plate number of the
getaway vehicle, said Costa Mesa Police Lt. Dale Birney.
The license plate number was entered into a nationwide computer
system, he said.
Birney said the Police Department, the following day, also took a
missing person report fitting Goode’s physical description.
On Tuesday, Costa Mesa police received a call from the San Ysidro
Border Patrol officers saying the vehicle described in the robbery was
trying to reenter the United States from Mexico. Costa Mesa detectives
went to the border and arrested Goode on suspicion of committing the
armed robbery, Birney said.
Goode is being held in Costa Mesa Jail with bail set at $50,000.
