Art submissions sought for Bluebird
The Laguna Beach Arts Commission is seeking submissions for the
Bluebird Park Interactive Sculpture Competition.
The purpose of the competition is to add to the city’s public art
collection with high-quality artwork. The project is part of the planned
improvements for Bluebird Park, which includes replacing the play
equipment with equipment inspired by the mobiles of Alexander Calder.
The Arts Commission has designated a site to the left of the grass
stage at the park for a whimsical sculpture. The stage is used primarily
for the summer Music in the Park concert series. The sculpture will be
prominent during the concerts and should not block the stage. It should
be inviting and safe for children to play on and around.
As with all city artwork it is subject to removal or relocation at the
discretion of the city. The budget for the sculpture competition is
$10,000.
Entries will be accepted from California residents (proof of residency
is required). Submissions should be a scale model of the design with
simulated finish materials. Include a resume and statement. The deadline
for submissions is 5 p.m. Aug. 5.
