Honors: Swift earns award
COSTA MESA - Matt Swift, a Vanguard University athletic trainer,
was awarded a $5,000 scholarship for postgraduate education by the
National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. He was among
16 winners of the Sears Directors’ Cup Postgraduate Scholarship,
receiving his award at the 37th annual NACDA convention in Dallas,
earlier this month.
Swift earned a 3.86 grade-point average while studying athletic
training and pre-physical therapy and plans to graduate in December. He
was also awarded Vanguard’s Presidential Award Scholarship and was named
to the dean’s list.
Swift, a four-year men’s soccer player, was a member of the
student-athlete advisory council and was the first recipient of the
university’s Champions of Character Award after working as a student
trainer for the softball, men’s basketball and baseball teams.
Swift, who volunteered for various international mission trips and has
been an intern to the youth pastor of his church, plans to study physical
therapy in graduate school.
