John Wayne Airport passenger traffic was up again last month, showing

what appears to be a lasting recovery from the post-Sept. 11 plunge in

passengers. In June 2002, air traffic increased 4.3% over the prior-year

period.

Last month, 715,613 passengers flew out of John Wayne, compared with

685,949 the year before. Commercial carrier flights decreased by 2.1%

over the previous year, and air taxi or “commuter carrier” operations

were down 44.7%

The net effect was a 10.5% decrease in the total number take-offs and

landings, sliding from 35,572 in June 2001 to 31,839 last month.
