TUESDAY
* Ruby Street: A resident reported that his wallet containing $134
had been stolen from the dashboard of his parked car at 7:16 p.m. He
said his windows were rolled down and the car was unlocked.
* South Coast Highway: Police arrested a man reportedly staggering
in the middle of the street at around 4 a.m. under suspicion of being
drunk in public. Police said the suspect had sand all over him and no
shoes on. When asked how much he’d had to drink, the suspect said,
“Too much.”
MONDAY
* Ledroit Street: Police responded to a 911 hang-up call at around
4:30 a.m. and found a 32-year-old who’d apparently tried to commit
suicide. Medics took the person to South Coast Medical Center to
treat wrist wounds.
SUNDAY
* Canyon Acres Drive: A man in the 100 block reported at 4:08 p.m.
that his neighbor was trying to bait him into hitting her so she
could have him arrested. She reported three days earlier that he had
slashed a tire on each of her two cars. No arrests were made.
* Laguna Canyon Road: A 20-year-old driver said fell asleep at the
wheel and ran into a pole at around 7 a.m. in the 2800 block,
destroying his 2003 Volkswagen Jetta and knocking down several power
lines. Police said Edison spent nearly the entire day repairing the
wires and putting up a new pole, blocking traffic for hours. The
driver was uninjured.
* Mountain Road: An officer patrolling Bluebird Beach cited three
suspects from Palm Desert for underage drinking. The two 18-year-olds
and the 17-year-old said they were staying at the Surf and Sand
Hotel, and had gone down to the beach at around 3 a.m. to have a few
Pacificos.
SATURDAY
* Glenneyre Street: Police removed a swastika that had been
written on a city wall in the 2600 block at around 6 p.m. It was
reportedly made with a grease pencil, so it came off easily.
* South Coast Highway: A man holding a log in one hand and a Bible
in the other forced drivers out of the right lane near the West
Street intersection by reportedly walking into traffic and screaming
at drivers. Officers arrived and asked him to drop the log. He
complied, then began screaming Bible passages at the officer. Police
discovered he had been released from a mental institution. He was
then taken to another mental hospital in Santa Ana after an
evaluation at around 6 p.m.
* Cliff Drive: Police found three credit cards and another man’s
driver’s license on a 46-year-old sleeping on a bench in Heisler Park
at around 9 a.m. All three credit cards matched the name on the
driver’s license. Police discovered all four had been reported
missing by the owner 10 days before in the Downtown area. The suspect
was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property.
* La Mirada Street: Police received three calls at around 3 a.m.
reporting shots fired in the 900-block area. One caller reported
seeing two naked clowns with blue hair in the street. Each of the
three callers said they heard three or four shots consecutively and
another shot a little later. Police found no naked clowns in the
area.
APRIL 25
* Cress Street: A resident in the 700 block called police after
finding a fawn on his deck, near his two dogs, at around 8 a.m. He
said the dogs couldn’t get to the fawn, but it was trapped. Animal
control took the apparently uninjured fawn to an animal shelter.
APRIL 24
* Broadway: A resident said she was rear-ended while trying to
make a left turn onto South Coast Highway and said the driver of a
1989 red Volvo put the car in reverse and sped away. The victim was
able to take down the license plate number, which police are
investigating.
