A few favorite things
EYE ON ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT
Yes, I’m guilty for loving Laguna and the many facets that make it
the community that it is. I just sometimes feel I need a new cheer, a
way not to exhaust the same verbiage to express my feelings, to keep
it fresh, this affinity o’mine.
While sitting here with tiny pictures in my mind, a collage of
Laguna happenings played through my head and I broke into song with
“My Favorite Things.”
But it was my rendition with verse of up-and-coming things I am
looking forward to, such as the backstage tour of the Pageant. It was
one of the most fascinating things I’ve ever seen on an art level.
Plus there’s the lagunacanyonartists.com’s open art studio event
Saturday and Sunday with more than 20 artists opening their studios
to showcase their latest work. It’s a great way to meet the artist
and enjoy the different mediums.
The Laguna Beach High School’s Dance Company will have its Spring
Dance Concert called DancExpo that will run this weekend through
next. Then there’s the “First Sundays” concert at the college on
Sunday with Laguna Beach Live! Presenting the Price Trio, oboe, harp
and flute. “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” by the Laguna Playhouse’s
Youth Theatre will open May 9.
Heritage Month offers a plethora of Laguna-related things to do to
enjoy our community’s essence. And there’s the Imagination
Celebration coming up, the College’s “Graduating Senior Exhibition”
opening on May 17.
Laguna Art Museum will hold a masquerade ball honoring its 85-year
anniversary on May 17. Anything the museum does is always
exceptional.
And the list goes on and on ... but these are a few of my favorite
things.
LAGUNA CULINARY ARTS OPENING
There were lines of people gathered for the Grand Opening for the
Laguna Culinary Arts Professional Chef School and Bakery. The digs
are at 845 Laguna Canyon Road right around the corner from one of my
favorite places -- well two of my favorite places -- [seven-degrees]
and the Sawdust. They still have the Home Chef Classes and Fine
Cookware Store, as well as their corporate offices at 550 S. Coast
Highway, Suite No. 7. This new place is a whole other entity of
creative cooking.
Perhaps the reason it was so crowded was the level of food they
serve -- it’s no wonder they call it the “Art of Cooking” because I
have never quite tasted such delicious edibles. They had an
incredible spread including vegetarian caviar. The desserts too rated
a 10 on the taste factor.
Laguna Culinary Arts takes yummm to a new level. For information,
call 494-0745 for the South Coast Highway offerings and for the
professional chef program and bakery call 494-4006.
