Giants hold off Yankees at the plate
A throw to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning by Kevin
Stoops secured a big victory by the Giants.
The first baseman relayed the ball to catcher Nick Hansen whose
tag at the plate stopped a Yankees base runner from scoring the tying
run, preserved a 3-2 victory in Ocean View Little League Minor A
Division action.
The win allowed the Giants to maintain a share of the division
lead with the Angels.
Both teams are 8-2.
The play was set up when Giants’ centerfielder Scot Bailey fielded
a one-hopper. Bailey attempted to get the Yankee hitter out at first
base, but his long throw was late.
Stoops took the throw and, noticing another Yankee base runner
heading for home, threw to Hansen.
The Giants scored their three runs on eight hits which included a
triple by Mitchell Grant and two hits each by Bailey and Lars Jensen.
The Giants, however, stranded nine base runners.
Jensen and Austin Barlow shared pitching duties and combined to
hold the Yankees to two runs on four hits while striking out eight.
