It seems like my specialty is photographing...

It seems like my specialty is photographing kids and dogs. I could

probably set aside a whole section in my portfolio just for them.

There’s nothing wrong with these types of pictures. Actually, they

usually make the best photos. It’s something everyone can identify

with.

So when I was driving over the Santa Ana River to an “In the

Classroom” feature and saw these dogs swimming in the river mouth, I

had to turn around, even knowing this would make me late to the

school.

I think what makes children and pets such good subjects is they go

about their business so candidly. They’re not afraid of the camera.

Even if they know their picture is being taken, it’s not long before

they forget and go back to what they were doing. Adults are just too

self-conscious.

So the next time you see a kid or pet photo in the paper, check

the photo credit. It’s probably mine.
