Fort, Hallet combine to toss no-hitter

Eric Hallett and Brian Ford combined to throw a no-hitter as the

Angels defeated the A’s, 13-0, in Newport Beach Little League AAA

action.

Hallett fanned seven in three innings while Ford struck out the

side in the fourth inning to end the game.

Ford went 2 for 2 with five RBIs and three runs scored for the

Angels, who were also powered by Matt Livingston’s 2-for-2 outing.

Dan Steele, Derek Spreitzer and Parker Ewles all provided timely

hits and Billy Macdonald displayed solid base running.

Sam Cubiero pitched well for the A’s and made a strong catch in

center field while Mike Pawell caught a solid game behind the plate.

Max Priestly was robbed of a hit when his line drive was snared by

Ford.

In other AAA action:

* Angels 4, Braves 3

Bruce Bearer singled past the shortstop to drive in the winning

run for the Angels in the bottom of the sixth inning.

With two outs, Ford singled, stole second and advanced to third on

a passed ball. Ewles walked and stole second, setting up Bearer for

the game-winning hit.

Ford led the Angels’ charge, going 3 for 3 with three runs scored

while defensive putouts were recorded by Steele and Chris

Faunt-Leroy. Matt Dollett-Hemphill, Nick Bishop, Alex Carlis and

Hallett each shined defensively as well.

Hallett and Ford again pitched well for the Angels, combining for

nine strikeouts. Dylan Pievac and Clark Cashion combined on eight

strikeouts for the Braves.

* Yankees 16, Cubs 2

The Yankees won their fifth consecutive game, enjoying a power

surge.

Graeme Fraser and Nick Gooding each tripled and tallied three and

two RBIs, respectively. Tanner Trauthen knocked in two runs while

Trevor McGhie and Preston Risser each scored three runs. Bryce Ashton

added to the hit parade.

Jack Murphy scored twice as Michael Haeri and Patrick Pearson

showed speed on the basepaths.

Eric Frazier, Jeremy Fox and Benny Townsend limited the Cubs’

offensive threats.

Risser and Frazer combined for nine strikeouts and limited the

Cubs to just two hits.

Reid Johnson, Zach Cabin and Connor Gaughan all pitched well for

the Cubs with Cabin and Allen Brown scoring their runs.

In previous majors action:

* Yankees 6, Red Sox 5

The Yankees held off the first-place Red Sox, as Blake Terry

scored the winning run.

Matt Morris and Randall Nelson each tripled in runners for the

Yankees.

Nelson, Morris, Nico Napolitano and Danny Baker all scored runs

for the Yankees.

On the hill, Morris started and was relieved by Bret Weinberger.

John Christian held the Red Sox scoreless in the final innings.

* Yankees 14, Giants 4

Christian’s home run and Terry’s double gave the Yankees a big

lead against the Giants with runs scored by Nelson, Napolitano (2)

and Eric Mutzke (2).

Kyle Warsaw, Alex Mainthow, Morris, Weinberger (2), Tyler Haly and

Baker also scored for the Yankees.

Morris’ pitching and solid fielding a catching by Baker held the

Giants to four runs.

Eric Morris, Nelson, Haly and Warsaw also showed strong fielding

skills.

In AAA play:

* Yankees 9, Angels 8

Graeme Frazer made a diving tag of an Angel runner, who tried to

steal home on a passed ball, for the final out to preserve a 9-8

Yankee victory in Newport Beach Little League AAA action. The Angels

had two men on base with two outs and trailing by a run when Frazer

made the tag.

Frazer and Bryce Ashton combined to record six strikeouts and

limited the Angels to only seven hits.

The Yankee offense was powered by a triple from Tanner Trauthen,

along with timely hitting by Preston Risser, Trevor McGhie, Michael

Haeri and Patrick Pearson. Nick Gooding showed aggressive base

running and scored two runs.

* Giants 9, Diamondbacks 7

Emory Molnar powered a grand slam in the fifth inning to spark the

Giants’ come-from-behind win. Molnar also tallied a two-run double

and helped defensively for the victors.

Grant Davis pitched three shutout innings for the Giants, striking

out five and allowing only three hits.

Daniel Noto, Nick Curci and Matt Conger, who made a catch in right

field in the sixth inning to preserve the victory, keyed the Giants’

defense.

Austin Jones and Jack Schloemer pitched well in relief of Davis.

Sandon Griffin and Cort Hastings threw on the mound for the

D-backs.
