CdM clinches outright crown
* Corona del Mar High clinched the outright Pacific Coast League
baseball championship in impressive fashion Tuesday as junior Josh
Bradbury and senior Nick Karpe had huge offensive days and senior
Nick Rhodes was sharp on the mound in a 12-2 triumph at Tesoro.
Bradbury launched two home runs, his seventh and eighth of the
season, including a grand slam in the fifth. He also doubled to
finish 3 for 5 with five RBIs.
Karpe was 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles and a two-run dinger.
Sophomore Wess Presson was 3 for 4, and junior Blake Contant was 2
for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs.
CdM’s 12-hit attack was more than enough to give Rhodes his third
win in as many decisions. The third-year varsity standout, who has
seen limited innings due to a sore arm, scattered six hits in five
shutout innings. He struck out four and walked one.
“Nick looks stronger than he has all year,” said CdM Coach John
Emme, who also said his team was happy to clinch the outright crown
with just one league game remaining.
“We decided to make sure there was no co- in front of the word
champions,” Emme said.
The Sea Kings improved to 16-8, 11-3. The Titans fell to 7-17,
3-11.
