Rocking together for the American Heart Assn.
The American Heart Assn. put up for bid rocker Eric Clapton’s riding
cap, heartthrob Justin Timberlake’s autographed photo and tickets to
Bruce Springsteen’s upcoming New Jersey concert. It was all part of a
charity effort to fight heart disease and stroke, and raise awareness
concerning drug use. The community responded, helping the association
to raise significant sums at the evening held at Irvine’s Hyatt
Regency.
The music industry connection was the idea of Max Harlow, wife of
the late John Entwistle of the rock band The Who. Entwistle died last
year while being treated for a heart condition brought on by drug
use. Chaired by Newport’s Tom Neilsen, the event and the Heart Assn.
was supported by Winston Miller, David Wooten, Riva Gebel, Roseanne
Levan, Pam Weston, Sam Goldstein and Heidi Miller who was honored
with the “Friend of Heart” Award. In addition, Hoag Hospital was
recognized with the “Legacy of Life Award” for its service to the
community dating back to the post-World War II days in coastal Orange
County.
