ON THE AGENDA
Here are some items to be considered tonight by the Newport Beach
City Council.
NO STUDY SESSION
The study session before today’s 7 p.m. regular meeting of the
City Council has been canceled. Instead, the council meeting will
convene at 7 p.m. as the Newport Beach Public Facilities Authority
for its annual meeting. After that meeting within a meeting is
concluded, the council will proceed with business on its regular
agenda.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The authority, which first formed to handle financing for building
the Cannery Village parking lot and expanded in 1992 to finance the
central library, will convene to elect officers and receive a brief
financial report.
CORONA DEL MAR BEACH IMPROVEMENTS
A long-awaited hot topic will likely get its time in the spotlight
tonight as the council considers a plan to make about $2 million in
improvements to Corona del Mar State Beach. Plans call for two
1,231-square-foot restroom buildings and a 2,225-square-foot building
to house concessions, lifeguard and first aid services, and a marine
life resources facility with a lifeguard observation room on top.
Plans also call for expanding the grass area along the length of the
beachfront pavement.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Residents have strong feelings about the best ways to improve the
beach, so it’s possible that the discussion could get heated.
STREET SWEEPING
As part of its commitment when it annexed portions of Santa Ana
Heights and Bay Knolls, the City Council tonight will vote on a plan
to sweep streets in this neighborhood. The council will consider an
item to bring the area in line with the rest of the city for weekly
street sweeping. The plan includes posting No Parking signs on most
streets in the area to forbid parking from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
every Thursday.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Because the matter is on the council’s consent calendar, it’s
likely to pass.
