One person dies, another taken to hospital after solo crash
One person died Tuesday evening after the truck the person was
driving crashed into a light pole on the right shoulder of the Corona
del Mar Freeway, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The accident happened at about 7:50 p.m. on the southbound Corona
del Mar Freeway near Bison Avenue when the driver of a blue Chevrolet
truck lost control of the vehicle, hit the pole and then crashed into
the guard rail, said CHP Officer Stacy Willits.
The overturned truck blocked the No. 3 lane and part of the guard
rail was protruding into the roadway, she said. Traffic was snarled
and a SigAlert was issued at 8:02 p.m.
The person who was driving the vehicle died and the condition of a
passenger in the truck was not known, Willits said. The passenger was
transported to a hospital, she said.
Willits said both the driver and the passenger were trapped in the
overturned truck and had to be extricated by Orange County Fire
Authority officials.
