Sailors go 10-0
Newport Harbor High’s freshman football team completed an undefeated
season with a 38-6 victory over Woodbridge.
The Sailors went 10-0, won the Sea View League and dominated yet
another opponent by defeating the Warriors to close out the season
last week.
Newport built a 28-0 lead before halftime, as running back Jasen
Ruiz scored twice. His 7-yard scamper got things started for the
Sailors. Quarterback Kevin Williams threw two first-half touchdowns,
one to Jarrett Daniel and the other to Ruiz. Williams also connected
with Brett Houten and Ben Buttolph on two-point conversion passes.
Buttolph, the Sailors’ fullback, scored a 3-yard TD run, and Nick
Frazier booted a 35-yard field goal in the second half. Houten also
blocked a punt that eventually set up Buttolph’s touchdown, and an
interception by Chase Burns led to Frazier’s field goal. Alex Warnock
rounded out the scoring for the Sailors, intercepting a pass and
returning it 30 yards for the touchdown.
