Breakers fall to Woodbridge

The Laguna Beach High boys’ basketball team played for seventh-place
at the Irvine World News Tournament, but the Breakers dropped a 69-46
decision to Woodbridge at Irvine High.
The Breakers played the Warriors evenly in the second half of play
after having fallen behind, 36-19, at intermission.
Jeff Clark scored 12 points to lead Laguna and Ivan Kovacevic
scored 10 points.
Also at the Irvine World News Tournament, Laguna was edged by
Carlsbad, 49-46. Kovacevic scored 16 points and Clark finished with
11 points.
In earlier tournament play, Laguna fell to Rancho Bernardo, 59-39,
in second-round play.
The Breakers trailed by just four at the half, but were outscored,
30-14, after intermission.
Kovacevic topped all scorers in the game with 17 points.
Clark added 11 points for the Breakers.
In girls’ water polo, Laguna roared back from an 8-1 halftime
deficit but still fell short in an 8-6 nonleague loss to host Canyon.
The battle featured two teams currently ranked among the Top 10 in
CIF Southern Section Division II, and both teams reached the
division’s semifinal round last year.
Kat Gordon and Breanna Duplisea each scored two goals to lead
Laguna.
Jessica McKee and Addison Doud each scored once to complete the
Breakers’ scoring.
