Angels get past Reds, 8-1
The Angels rode the pitching of Blake VanderHam and Zachary Gates to
defeat the Reds, 8-1, in Minor A Division action in the Ocean View
Little League.
The win upped the Reds’ record to 4-2 heading into the spring
break.
VanderHam started and pitched three shut out innings, giving up
two hits.
Gates finished the game in relief and also gave up two hits to go
along with seven strikeouts.
Patrick Shaughnessy started the game with a double and scored on
an infield single by Gates.
Also getting hits for the Angels were VanderHam, Jacob Schulze,
Matt Butler and Jacob Potter.
The Reds, now 1-5, were led offensively by Dane Perkins and Wyatt
Albert with two singles each.
Alex Villalobos turned in a solid game at second base for the
Reds.
Giants 15, A’s 8
The Giants won their fourth consecutive game to climb into a
first-place tie with the A’s and Angels.
The Giants got off to a strong start, scoring 15 runs in the first
two innings while strong pitching and defense held the A’s to just
one run until the 6th inning, where the A’s rallied to score 7 more.
Brandon Stadler had two hits and three RBIS, Grant Mayeaux went
two for three, Travis Corey had two hits and a pair of RBI and Jake
Rubino had a hit, walked twice and drove in three runs for the
Giants.
The A’s offense was led by Frankie Pacheco, Robert Fogarty and
Stephen Clamp with two hits each.
Austin Barlow pitched the first four innings for the Giants and
held the A’s to one run on four hits while striking out seven without
a walk.
The A’s Robert Fogerty pitched the fourth and fifth innings and
didn’t allow a run, hit or walk while striking out three.
Marlins 10, Angels 7
Jake Caron’s RBI triple in the third inning broke a tie and sent
the Marlins on their way toward victory.
Caron’s triple scored Ryan Lewis, who began the inning with a
double.
Devin King hit his first home run of the season in the fourth and
Elijah Brown, who singled, scored on Connor Miller’s single to up the
Marlins’ lead to 4-1.
The Angels staged a five-run rally in the bottom of the fourth, as
Patrick Shaughnessy singled, Zachary Gates doubled and Jake Schulze,
Blake VanderHam, and Branden Vogl produced singles in taking a 6-4
lead.
Michelle Roe’s first hit of the season sparked a Marlins rally in
the fifth. Lewis followed with his second hit of the game and Caron’s
hard-hit grounder scored Roe for his second RBI of the game.
When the inning had finished, the Marlins had scored six runs for
a 10-6 lead.
Shaughnessy doubled, stole third and home to complete the Angels’
scoring in the fifth.
Marlins 5, Cubs 1
Strong pitching by Tyler Mildenberg and Devin King set the tone
for the Marlins in their win over the Cubs.
The Marlins pieced together three doubles and a pair of singles to
score four runs in the third inning to break a tie and take a 5-1
lead.
Devin King had an RBI single to account for the Marlins’ first run
and Ryan Lewis doubled.
Dallas West had an RBI single and Angelo Abbadessa doubled for the
Cubs.
Minor B Division
A’s 15, Angels 6
The A’s received strong pitching from a fivesome of starter David
Feirstein and relievers Josh Said Conner Cassotta Jake Poss and Tyler
Hammock to post their second victory in a row.
Feirstein led the A’s offense with four hits and four RBIs.
Said picked up three singles and Poss and Hammock each had a pair
of hits and three RBIs.
Leland Morehand went two for two with an RBI and Alex Harden,
Jason Baxter and William Morehand each had hits for the victors.
At Seaview Little League:
Minor A Division
Dodgers 6, Cubs 6
Lane Hepburn struck out five in a six-inning stint as the Dodgers
tied the division-leading Cubs in a game that ended in a tie through
seven innings.
Troy Baljeu belted two hits including a double and Mitchell Grant
had an RBI single for the Dodgers.
Dillon Brown pitched 2 1/3 innings with five strikeouts and Chase
Leamer pitched 4 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts for the Cubs, who
received an RBI single from Quentin Moscaritolo.
Marlins 6, Angels 6
Another division game went seven innings and ended in a 6-6 tie.
Michael Buntich pitched for the Marlins and teammates Scott Orel
smacked a double among his two hits and Cole Condon and Andy Grunbaum
each had two hits.
The Angels had an RBI single from Eric Sickle and Jacob Lesinski
saw pitching action.
A’s 9, Royals 8
Kyle Curtis recorded five strikeouts to get the pitching win for
the A’s.
Brandon Hastings had three hits, Chase Lough singled twice and
Ryan Bleile took the mound for the first time for the Royals and
struck out two in two innings of work.
Perry Clitheroe led the Royal batting charge with two hits and
three RBIs, Nolan Heyer and Steven Malone each had two hits and an
RBI.
Marlins 9, Cubs 3
Brendon Hartjoy had three hits and two RBIs as the Marlins got
past the Cubs.
Corey Hammond finished with two hits and two RBIS and Michael
Buntich struck out six for the win.
Cubs pitcher Jack Koeller notched 10 strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings
and Nick Plunkett had an RBI single for the Cubs.
A’s 8, Dodgers 4
Starter Beau Mitchell had six strikeouts as the A’s downed the
Dodgers.
Daniel Litty and Grant Murchison each had RBI singles for the A’s.
Dodgers pitcher Troy Baljeu struck out five and had three hits on
offense and Danny Oates and Johnny Watkins each had an RBI single.
Royals 12, Angels 11
The Royals’ Connor Ahern and Kaleb Pritchett each had two hits and
drove in a run. Perry Clitheroe singled with three RBI to help power
the Royals past the Angels.
Dominic Granado three hits and three RBIs, Chris Navarro and Jacob
Lesinski each had two hits and an RBI and Max Mayer struck out six
for the Angels.
At Huntington Valley Little League:

Dodgers 11, Diamondbacks 4
Houston Hill got the pitching win for the Dodgers.
Pirates 5, A’s 2
Nick Mazzone worked the mound for the Pirates.
Angels 0, Braves 0
Neither team was able to score in game halted in the fifth inning
due to darkness.
Dodgers 1, Angels 0
Dodgers score the game’s lone run on a throwing error.
Pirates 6, Braves 0
Zach Michael and Nick Mazzone combine to pitch the Pirates past
the Braves.
Angels 3, A’s 2
Dillon Petrarca and Julian Herrera take turns on the mound to
subdue the A’s.

Scott Martin got the pitching win for the D-backs.
Pirates 3, Dodgers 2
Zach Michael gets the pitching win for the Pirates.

The Angels paired a strong defense with the pitching of Garrett
Keadle to defeat the D-backs.

CJ Hollingsworth got the shutout victory for the Pirates.

The Padres won their first game of the season behind the pitching
of Billy Jackson and Billy Moorehouse.
