Ordaz’s hat trick sparks Newport
The Newport boys under-13 soccer team won against South Irvine 5-2,
Saturday at Kaiser Field in Costa Mesa.
A hat trick was accomplished by team captain Jay Ordaz. Chris
O’Campo scored on a corner kick to start the scoring streak, while
Kaelin Daly scored on a breakaway. Other offensive contributors were
Ali Sadri, Brian Baca, Hector Marino, Ali Sadri and Sebastien Welch.
The defensive team of Aaron Rentz, E. J. Kehoe, Jake Manning,
Spencer Martinez and Chris Mendez held Irvine to two points.
* Newport 4, Corona del Mar 3
Scoring was accomplished by Ali Sadri, Jay Ordaz, Kaelin Daly, and
Sebastien Welch in Newport’s victory over Corona del Mar, Oct. 9 at
Arroyo Canyon.
Other offensive players were Chris O’Campo., Paul Zubatov and
Brian Baca. The defensive team was lead by Chris Mendez, Jake
Manning, Hector Marino, Spencer Martinez, Aaron Rentz and E. J.
Kehoe. Eric Ronquillo played in goal.
* Newport Mesa Infinity 1, Pacific South Velocity 0
The winning goal was nodded in by Shane Rocco off a corner kick
from Rodrigo Ruvalcaba in Newport Mesa Infinity’s victory Saturday.
Jesse Perez turned away many tough shots in recording his first
shutout for the club team. Defenders, John Ryder, Zac Chocek, Austin
Wobrock and Gavin contributed to the team’s first shutout. Cameron
Conway saved a driven shot off the goal-line to secure the win.
In boys under-12 play:
* Corona del Mar
The Corona del Mar soccer team remains undefeated and in first
place in its division half way through the club soccer season.
The team has outscored all teams with a total of 25 goals scored
in seven games, and allowing only one goal in those seven games.
Scoring has been led by Colton Gyulay, Jack Gorab, Mason Case,
Steven Miller and Taylor Ross with help from Blake Thomsen, Kjell
Wolker, Mikey Pawell, Brent Lawson and Wil Morrow.
Solid defense has been anchored with outstanding performances by
Nick Curci, Brennan Anderson, Brent Gray and Jensen Rinehart. Goalie
Logan Newett has earned six shut-outs during the first seven games.
In girls under-11 play:
* Newport 1, Aliso Viejo 0 With the score 0-0 going into the fourth quarter, Newport gave it
their all. Monique Conant got a pass from Madison Wooters and
proceeded to take a hard shot that deflected off of an Aliso Viejo
player straight into its goal. Other standout players who made the
victory possible were Ali Hayes, Madison Grant, Meaghan Kay and
Natalie Duthoy.
In girls under-10 play:
* Gryffindor Seekers 3, Juicy Pineapples 2
Gryffindor Seeker Analysa Vivanco scored the first goal off
teammate Kirsten Rohan’s pass to center. After the Juicy Pineapples
tied the game, the Seekers’ offense, joined by Haley Scott, Taylor
Hickerson and Lea Phillips, came back with continuous strong pressure
against Juicy’s goal.
One goal attempt rebounded several times off Kirsten Rohan,
Samantha Stalder and finally teammate Dana Jessen, allowing Dana to
score the second goal for the Seekers. After Analysia Vivanco shot
the third Seeker goal over the Juicy goalie, the Juicy Pineapples
poured through the Seekers’ defensive line to make the final goal.
Defense was played by Seekers’ Dana Jessen, Alice Barry, Andie
Strode, Ana Figueroa and goalies Jane Layton and Katty Ayala.
* Pink Pussycats 5, Big Green Fighting Machine
Emily Nall scored first for the Pussycats with a left-footed shot.
Gianna Light also scored for the Pussycats with a strong shot
followed by goals by Courtney Buck and Danica. Casey Duckworth
provided strong midfield support and Andria Spears made the pass to
Buck that led to a breakaway goal.
* Rip Curls 6, Orange Crush 0
The Rip Curls rolled over Orange Crush 6-0 on Saturday. Madison
Jabara had three goals for the Curls, two were scored by Roxana Crane
and Catherine Connelly scored her first goal of the season.
The defensive line of Page Keys, Emma Howard, Hailey Newett and
Savannah Baron held off the Crush all day long. Aiding on the field
with assists were Nikki Walsh, Alyssa Ohlig and in the goal, both
Monika Peterson and Allsion Kahn.
In girls under-10 play:
* Surf Chicks 4, Bull Dogs 0
Haley Cleveland scored her first goal of the season for the Surf
Chicks in the first quarter. That was followed up by a goal by
Shannon Henderson in the second quarter.
Seneca Jakosky took over in the second half scoring two more
goals. Defensive play by Brinley Siemonsma, Hannah Nance and Mahaylee
McKinney kept the Bull Dogs scoreless.
In boys under-10 play:
* Avalanche 5, Blue Tsunami 1
Nic Sargeant opened the scoring with three first period goals off
of long lead assists from Kevin Rakestraw and Chris Buchanan. Gage
Coffelt scored after sharp passes from Riley Ricker and Parker
Martinez.
Sargeant finished the Avalanche scoring with a second half goal
with an assist from Sam Jones.Joey Gregory and Rory Fleming helped
the Avalanche to control the middle and Gordon Lewis made an
outstanding kick save on a Blue Tsunami try.
* Raiders 3, Patriots 3
Blake Smith, Adam Bennani and Bryan Shollin started at forward,
with Grant Moore and Griffin Leggett at midfield. Charlie Barber and
Cameron Candelaria started at defensive fullback, with Dylan Roe at
sweeper and Connor Leggett at goal keeper.
The Patriots scored a goal in the first quarter to take a 1-0 lead
into the second quarter. Keaton Hirsch rotated in at forward, and
Andres Zourelli came in at midfield. Blake Smith rotated to fullback
to help out on defense. Griffin Leggett was able to score a goal, and
the score at the half was 1-1.
* Devil Rays 3, Red Bull 2
Rocky Gonzales shook off last week’s injury to score early in the
first quarter on a pass from Bob Boullon. In the second quarter, the
Bulls evened the score before Boullon moved the Devil Rays ahead.
The Devil Rays scored again when Brandt Boucher passed to Izaak
Lofgren, who fed it in to R.J. Roberts, who found the net. Zack
Cornwell played goalie for the first time. T.J. Tarazevits and Lee
Stevens broke up Red Bull scoring drives, while Max Johnson and
Isaiah Suarez moved the ball well with a strong passing game. Red
Bull scored once more in the fourth quarter, but the Devil Rays held
on to win.
In girls under-8 play:
* Purple People Eaters vs. Pink Panthers
Julia Carney started off the game in the goal and had three saves.
The defensive work of Kayla Savarese and Mackenzie Hyde aided Carney.
Sierra Killingsworth and Haley Burg dominated on offense with
superior ball handling and passing. In the second quarter Carney
scored the Purple People Eaters first goal with a set up by Sierra
Stump.
The third quarter play was dominated by the mid fielders Summer
Gieger and Evelyn Stephens, making many awesome stops and turn around
passes. Kayla Savarese did some dribbling and passing, while Kira
Farris made some amazing saves in the goal. In the fourth quarter,
Sierra Killingsworth and MacKenzie Hydes had many steals, while Haley
Burg and Sierra Stump kept the ball near the goal the entire quarter.
* Purple Panthers vs. Watermelons
The Watermelon’s defense was the key to the game as the Panthers
only managed one shot on goal. Much of the game was played in the
center of the field with neither team able to gain an advantage.
Tough-nosed defensive play by the Panthers’ Leah Castillo, Kira
Wandrocke and Tara Fuller kept the talented Watermelons on their
heals throughout the first quarter, but the Panthers were unable to
capitalize on an early-field advantage.
Leading Panther scorers Libby Knight and Bryn Crowell were unable
to get on track for much of the game. Knight had two fourth quarter
breakaways and just missed wide to the left on a shot with two
minutes left in the game. Carlee Kapana stopped five shots on goal,
while Rachel Whitelegge, McKenzie Stephens and Ryan Moncrief played
well together on the offensive and defensive end.
In boys under-8 play:
* Green Grunions vs. Inferno Balls
The only goal of the game was scored in the third quarter by Andy
Gutierrez. Ryan Baskent and Matt Valeriano led the way with a strong
offense. Chance Siemonsma, Killian Headington and D.J. Erickson
provided offensive support throughout the game with Chance again
being challenged as goalie, successfully denying the Inferno Balls’
scoring chances. Clarence McCarthy, Alex Kerr and Matthew Leffler
also successfully contributed to the Grunions’ effective defensive
effort.
In girls under-7 play:
* Speckled Alligators vs. Pink Piranhas
Attacking the ball on offense was Emily Goltz, Emma Vjunovich,
Olivia Jones and Megan Keys. Jacque Defeo scored on an assist by
Paige Tamblyn. Katie Kearns lead the gators in steals.
In boys under-7 play:
* Trojans vs. Sun Devils
The Trojans continuously pushed the ball onto the Sun Devil side
of the field with forwards Luis Mora and Matt Brodie finally landing
shots into the back of the Sun Devil net. Trojan fullbacks Chase
Braun, Jack Beeker and Mikey Plecas turned away several breakaways
from the aggressive Sun Devils, anchored by Ryan Young and friends.
However, Trojan goalies Eddie Guzman and Michael Clarke made
several diving saves. The ball control skills of Cooper Hendrix was
key for the Trojans in the second half as the team continued on its
successful campaign.
* Predators vs. Steelers
The Steelers dominated possession in the first quarter, but were
unable to penetrate a stingy Predator defense that had allowed only
two goals in the last five games. The deadlock was broken just before
halftime when goal-scoring wizard, Dillon Murphy, latched on to a
pass from the right to slam the ball low into the net.
The Steelers almost equalized soon after the start of the second
half when their skillful center forward slid the ball past the
Predator goalie, Charlie Stassel, only to see Stassel chase back and
smother the ball right on the goal line.
This was the last real chance The Steelers had as The Predators
applied continual pressure, and after seeing his close-range shot fly
off the post, Murphy gathered the rebound and buried it in the net.
The scoring was completed when Carter Scott dribbled the ball into
the opponent’s goal from the left side of the penalty area.
In girls under-6 play:
* Flamingos
Flamingo Madeline Phillips scored her first goal on Saturday in
only her fourth soccer game. Julia Ackerman and McKenzie Porteous
each scored twice, and Erika Ellia added a sixth goal. Paige Fults
played defense while Mandy Tapfer and Kate McAllister supported on
both offense and defense.
* Blue Dolphins vs. Hi-Lighters
Lead once again by the goal scoring of Marissa Cislaw and Amanda
Wilson, the Blue Dolphins matched up favorably with the Hi-Lighters.
Emily Fletcher, Kendall Machado, Abby Flores and Kailey Hambek all
contributed with strong games. And Paige Okey was again the fastest
volunteer to come out of the game.
In boys under-6 play:
* Purple Dragons
Barron Banta and Max Toffel had another big game scoring for the
Purple Dragons. Dominic Loftus and Chase Adelsohn kept their
opponents away from the goal. Nic Rimlinger and Ben Toffel advanced
the ball and Malcolm Davis had some big shots at the net.
In boys under-5 play:
* Green Bulldogs vs. Dinomites
The highlight of the game against the Dinomites, and perhaps of
the entire Green Bulldogs season, was Eann McKasson’s first goal. Ben
Zehnder and Billy Shannon also scored goals for the Green Bulldogs.
Jack Brennan played solid defense and Joe Skinner had several
long-range shots on goal.
* Cheetahs vs. Silver Tigers
Taking advantage of opportunities were Ashe Deering and Jack
McClintock, with four goals apiece. Chandler Siemonsma had one, and
Lucas Hodges, had his first of the season.Joshua Jenkins, Jon
Hodgesand James Hodges all played tough for the Cheetahs,blocking
shots, making some steals and running down loose balls.
* The Stingers vs. Crocodiles
Max Sandberg, Keagan Coyne, Cole McFetters, Scott Ryder and
Forrest Faigen all scored goals for the Stingers in a game against
the Crocodiles.
