More fundraiser fun ahead
SUZIE HARRISON
Between AIDS Services Foundation’s “World’s Fair -- Lost Vegas,” the
Moonshine Festival and Lagunatics, my head is still spinning from the
fun.
The momentum just keeps going with the Laguna Art Museum auction
and Laguna Beach Live’s jazz workshop and concert ... will the fun
ever stop?
LAGUNA ART MUSEUM’S ART AUCTION
Laguna Art Museum will have it’s 22nd annual art auction on
Saturday. The event is always a blast and a great way for people to
buy art from esteemed artists at reasonable prices. Hundreds of
California artists have donated their work to be auctioned with all
the proceeds going to the museum’s education programs.
Chairwoman Melinda Stanton said there is something for everyone
with prices ranging in the past from $1,000 and up.
The selection includes a range reflecting different art medium --
everything from abstract to plein air with many Laguna Beach artists
participating as usual, some of whom are world renowned.
Opportunities to buy the art involve both a silent and live
auction. The live auction really gets an exciting vibe going.
The evening starts at 6 p.m. with a hosted bar of fine wines and
cocktails followed by heavy hors d’oeuvres, coffee and dessert.
Laguna Art Museum is at 307 Cliff Drive. Tickets are $100. For
information, call (949) 494-8971 ext. 200 or go online to

LAGUNA BEACH LIVE! GETS JAZZY
Laguna Beach Live! is sponsoring an event on Saturday that
includes education and a concert. Recording artist Carmen Bradford
with her big band will perform favorite jazz standards at Laguna
Beach Artists’ Theatre, 625 Park Ave., on Saturday at 8 p.m. The
event is a benefit concert for jazz education in our schools.
Other leading jazz artists taking stage include some award winning
performers: trumpeter Bijon Watson, guitarist Bruce Forman, bassist
Roger Shew, and pianist Eric Dries.
Musicians and vocalists in high school and middle school are
welcome to participate in a special pre-concert workshop in jazz
instrumentation and voice taught by Bradford from 3 to 6 p.m. The
cost is $5 and drop-ins are welcome. Parents are welcome to observe
the workshops at no charge.
Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert are $20 and $10 for students and
seniors, 65 and over and can be purchased online
https://www.lagunabeachlive.org, or by phone at (949) 497-2787.
‘LAGUNATICS’ BRINGS LUNACY OUT IN THE OPEN
“Lagunatics” produced in the Irvine Bowl was a brilliant idea. I
am thrilled the bowl is being used for so many different events. It’s
a beautiful setting and a perfect venue for Laguna Beach.
The writing team of Bree Burgess Rosen, Michael O’Malley, Chris
Quilter, Adam Hemming, Paul Nygro and Todd Payton Leach deserve a
standing ovation. I fell in love with Payton Leach last year for his
outstanding role as a goat. Again, this year he wins the adorable
award.
Chief Jim Spriene is ready to leave his day job and go Hollywood,
but I certainly hopes he stays in Laguna. I loved his top 10 list and
applauded the chief’s second year encore performance of “Montage
Cash.” Spriene was also in one of my favorites this year called
“Chief.”
My other five star snaps went to “The Sound of Mucus,” “Gilded
Ghetto” and “Buyin’ a Dive.”
The spoof on the Pageant of the Masters was another number that
made me chuckle.
Congrats to all the cast, crew, writers and of course Bree.
Encore! Encore!
