Foreign exchange student hosts are needed
The Partnerships for Learning Youth Exchange and Study Program is
looking for Laguna Beach families to house international students
ages 15 to 18 from Egypt, Indonesia, Turkey, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia,
India, and the Philippines, as part of the academic year in America.
The program is sponsored by the not-for-profit American Institute
for Foreign Study Foundation.
It’s part of a new movement started after the Sept. 11, 2001,
terrorist attack to increase public diplomacy and address the
unsympathetic view of the U.S. held in some countries today and for
Americans to learn more about predominantly Muslim countries and
cultures.
Exchange students who participate in the program can come to
Laguna Beach to live with host families, attend school, engage in
activities to learn about American society and values and help
educate Americans about their own countries and cultures. A
successful exchange involves not only a welcoming host family, but
also a helpful liaison who facilitates placement and provides
support.
