Architect pleads guilty to 13 felony charges A Newport Beach architect lost his license after pleading guilty

in Orange County Superior Court to 13 felony counts of altering land

surveys for more than a dozen Newport Beach homes.

The California Architects Board and the Department of Consumer

Affairs asked to revoke Andrew Paul Goetz’s license after he admitted

in January that he forged or altered land surveys on some homes.

He was sentenced Wednesday to 60 days in jail, three years of

probation, and the immediate surrender of his architect’s license.

Family plans memorials for missing couple

Family members of Tom and Jackie Hawks, the Newport Beach couple

that went missing after selling their yacht in November, are holding

a memorial today in several locations across the country to honor the

couple’s 16th wedding anniversary.

Tom Hawks, 57, and Jackie Hawks, 47, have been missing since they

told friends they were going on a test cruise with prospective buyers

of their 55-foot cabin cruiser, Well Deserved.

Police believe they were murdered.

Tom’s son, Ryan Hawks will host a memorial at 7 p.m. in San Diego.

Son Matt Hawks will host a memorial at 7 p.m. in Prescott, Ariz.,

and Jackie’s parents, Jack and Gayle O’Neill, will host a memorial at

6 p.m. in Concord, Ohio.

The family asks those who cannot attend to honor the couple with a

moment of silence.

A preliminary hearing for the five people suspected in the

couple’s alleged murder is scheduled for Aug. 12 in Orange County

Superior Court.

Jellyfish that stung hundreds are now gone

The jellyfish that filled the waters off Newport Beach and stung

hundreds of people have now left, said Newport Beach Fire Department

spokeswoman Jennifer Schulz.

“It looks like everyone’s back in the water,” Schulz said.

The jellyfish, identified as black jellyfish, first began

appearing at Orange County beaches last week.

Lifeguards did not evacuate the water but kept vinegar on hand at

all towers to treat anyone who had been stung.
