HONORS:UCI golf rules March
UC Irvine senior Brian Edick (male) and junior Selaneé Henderson (female) have been named Big West Conference Golfers of the Month for March.
Edick captured the first individual title of his UCI career by winning the Fresno State Lexus Classic March 12-13. He had rounds of 74-68-67 for a 54-hole total of seven-under 209 in the 95-player field. His 67 March 13 tied the low round of the tournament.
Henderson won back-to-back tournaments, becoming only the second UCI women’s player in the program’s history to win consecutive events.
She won the Spartan Invitational March 5-6 with rounds of 69-71-70 for a three-round total of six-under 210 in the 72-player field. Henderson then claimed medalist honors at the Anteater Invitational March 26-27 with rounds of 69-72-75 for a total of 216 in the 84-player field.
Her opening-round 69 was the tournament low.
Henderson is UCI’s career leader in tournament victories with five.
The UCI women next play in the Big West Championship at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita April 23-24. The Anteater men will compete in the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford’s golf course April 14-15.
UCI’S YOVAN HONORED
UC Irvine senior Aaron Yovan earned Big West Conference Athlete of the Week honors in men’s tennis for the week ending April 1.
In UCI’s 4-3 loss to UAB March 30 in the Anteater Classic, Yovan defeated Thomas Weiss at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 7-5. He also paired with Mustafa Ulukan to post an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
Yovan, heading into this week, had won three consecutive matches in both singles and doubles.
