NEWPORT BEACH — Senior Brett Rogers hit a two-run homer, then senior Brett Houten hit a grand slam to key a seven-run sixth inning for the host Sailors in the quarterfinals of the Beach Pit Classic Monday.
Newport (5-10), the defending tournament champion, visits Corona del Mar in a semifinal today at 11 a.m.
Junior Brock Schuler, up from the junior varsity, earned the win in relief.
Houten was two for four with five RBIs.

IRVINE — Senior Michelle Tolfa threw a three-hitter and Leslee Kazmarek scored the game’s only run on an error in a consolation-bracket game of the Woodbridge Tournament Monday at Bill Barber Park.
Tolfa had six strikeouts and no walks.
She singled to advance Kazmarek to second after Kazmarek singled to spark the fourth-inning rally. Kazmarek scored from second when the Edison first baseman couldn’t handle a throw from the third baseman, who had fielded a ground ball.
The Sea Kings (8-8) play again in the tournament Saturday against an opponent to be determined. That opponent just might be Newport Harbor.
