Costa Mesa 11, Aliso Niguel 9COSTA MESA — Garrick Williams hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, lifting the Mustangs to a win in the fifth-place game of the Beach Pit Classic at Costa Mesa High on Wednesday.

Williams went two for four with three RBIs for Costa Mesa (11-7). Matt Pisarski, who hit an RBI double earlier in the inning to tie the score, went three for four with two RBIs.

The Mustangs’ John Rybarczyk hit his eighth home run of the season and scored four runs. Gabe Sanchez also homered and Mike Molina had two doubles for Costa Mesa, which overcame two four-run deficits against the Wolverines (10-8).

P.J. Errington’s fourth-inning single was all Newport (5-12) could muster off South Hills starter Demitri De La Fuente.

Sage Hill 225,NEWPORT BEACH — For the second straight day, the Lightning won a match by one stroke, this time in nonleague action at Big Canyon Country Club Wednesday.

Geoff Grant shot six-over-par 42 to share medalist honors with two other golfers from Orange Lutheran. Ryan Babbush and Steve Choi both shot 43s, while James Chai carded a 47 and Grant’s younger brother, Steven, finished with 50 for Sage (12-2).
