Police arrest former punk rock drummer
Jimmy Michael Giorsetti, former drummer of late-1970s punk rock band the Germs, is facing charges of felony drug possession after Newport Beach police allegedly found in his car a soap container with traces of the date rape drug, police said.
On April 4, Newport police pulled over Giorsetti, known as Don Bolles during his time with the Germs, for a broken tail light, police said.
During a search of the 1968 Dodge Van, police found a wooden toiletry box that Giorsetti, 50, seemed to be trying to conceal, Sgt. Evan Sailor said.
Inside the box police found a bottle of liquid Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap and a small amount of marijuana among other items, police said.
The liquid was tested with an ODV 905 reagent test kit and showed positive identification for GHB, according to Sailor.
“We have no clue what else the liquid container consisted of,” Sailor said. “The test will show a positive reaction if GHB is present. It does not determine content percentage.”
Giorsetti, a Huntington Beach resident, was arraigned on April 5 at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach, where he pleaded not guilty, Orange County prosecutors said. From there he went to Orange County Jail, where he posted $20,000 bail, authorities said.
He is scheduled for pre-trial hearing Friday, authorities said.
