Former councilman awarded for service
Former Costa Mesa City Councilman Jack Hammett will receive a special lifetime service award from the city next week to recognize his many contributions to the community. Hammett served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years and is a Pearl Harbor veteran, and he was on the planning commission and City Council for a combined total of 15 years.
Hammett also chairs the Freedom Committee of Orange County, a veterans’ group that provides speakers on military history, and he helped form the Bristol Park Medical Group.
The Costa Mesa City Council will present Hammett the award at 6 p.m. Tuesday at 77 Fair Drive.
