Costa Mesa to consider new rules for subdividing

Costa Mesa City Council members will consider new rules for subdividing apartment buildings and industrial parks for the sale of individual units, also known as condo conversion, when they meet Tuesday. Under the proposed rules, property owners would have to at least meet new minimum standards for parking, and meet current standards for open space and other amenities. They’d also be charged park development fees if no fees were paid when buildings were first constructed.

Individual sale of industrial units on the Westside would be limited to specific situations, and in most of the city the ability to convert anything to condos will expire at the end of 2011, if the council agrees to the new rules.

The City Council will discuss the new condo conversion rules at its meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at 77 Fair Drive. To review the rules, visit www.ci.costa-mesa.ca.us/ council/agenda/2007-09-04.pdf.
