Police seeking rollerblader for help with deadly crash
Newport Beach police are asking a rollerblader who was involved last month in a collision with an elderly bicyclist to come forward to help in their investigation, officials announced Friday.
Shortly before 6 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day, Robert Lindquist Duey, who was 82, was riding his bicycle down Back Bay Drive north of San Joaquin Hills Road when he collided with an unknown man on rollerblades, police said.
Duey, wearing a helmet, fell and hit his head, Sgt. Evan Sailor said. The rollerblader stayed and helped the man, Sailor said witnesses told police.
After the incident concluded, the man skated away and no one got his name, Sailor said.
Duey died nine days later at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian from his injuries. It does not appear anything criminal happened. Investigators just need more information, Sailor said.
If anyone has information regarding the accident, call traffic investigator Bill Beverly at (949) 644-3747.
