Menorah ceremony to recognize Mumbai victims

Assemblyman Chuck DeVore will help light a giant menorah made out of chocolate coins at Fashion Island on Sunday.

Sponsored by the Chabad Jewish Center in Newport Beach, the menorah will be dedicated to the victims of the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

The menorah-lighting ceremony will coincide with the beginning of Hanukkah, which will start at sunset Sunday this year.

Attendees may bring unwrapped gifts for needy children. The donations will be distributed at foster homes and community shelters.

The event will begin 3 p.m. in the Bloomingdale’s courtyard at Fashion island with a concert featuring a performance by the group Las Judeos Locos. The menorah lighting also will feature gifts and treats for children.
