Vanguard’s Wirt collects all-conference honors
Vanguard University sophomore Kelsey Wirt was the Lions’ lone representative on the All-Golden State Athletic Conference women’s volleyball team.
The 5-foot-11 outside hitter, who also earned all-conference recognition as a freshman, helped the Lions to a 15-10 regular-season record and the program’s first berth in the NAIA Tournament, where it reached the final 12 and finished 18-12.
Wirt started all 30 matches for the Lions, recording a team-leading 301 kills and a hitting percentage of .208.
Her 266 digs, 59 total blocks and 67 assists ranked second on the team and her 28 aces ranked third among Vanguard players.
In other conference honors, senior Lauren Johnson, a 5-11 outside hitter, was named a GSAC Scholar Athlete for the second straight season.
