Youth brings ‘Grease’ to Fountain Valley
The members of Huntington Valley Boys & Girls Club are donning poodle skirts and leather jackets for their production of “Grease School Edition†on Friday and Saturday.
The musical is being put on by the Clubhouse Theatre’s middle school advanced drama program after auditions for the high school’s advanced drama program of “Grease†produced many talented, but too young performers, said Bob Hoxsie, play director and Boys & Girls Club board member.
His solution is “Grease School Edition†— a full Broadway play a little cleaned up and toned down for younger actors.
Seventeen students were whittled down from 60 through an audition process of singing, dancing and reading lines. Since being selected, the students have been rehearsing for three months, Hoxsie said.
“It’s amazing what the kids can do,†Hoxsie said. “It’s a lot of fun for five bucks.â€
The play runs 7 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club Kingston branch at 16582 Brookhurst St. in Fountain Valley. Tickets are $5 at the door.
