Prestridge is league’s MVP
Huntington Beach’s Claire Prestridge was named the Sunset League South Division Most Valuable Player recently in voting by league coaches.
The Oilers’ Taryn Rescigno is the Most Valuable Offensive Player, while Blair Boies of Edison and Nancy Mendez-Cervantes of Fountain Valley split Most Valuable Defensive Player honors.
Meagan Good of Huntington Beach was named Most Valuable Midfielder.
Huntington Beach won the league and advanced to the finals of the Los Angeles Field Hockey Assn. Tournament of Champions before falling to Newport Harbor, 1-0.
Other first-team all-league players included Huntington Beach’s Stephanie Walter, Maelen Lockhart, Brooke Burns and Jessica Van Arsdale.
Fountain Valley’s Ashley Woody and Taylor Merickel were also first-team, as were Marina’s Nicole Chittum and Emily Locken, plus Edison’s Heather Apodaca and Lauren Lavenau.
The Oilers’ Corinne Clegg and Ashlyn Pooler earned second-team nods, as did the Barons’ Jacqueline Matthews and Jacqueline Aleson O’Farrell. Marina’s Madison Clarke and Erin Burke, as well as Shelby Aldstadt and Julia Tscherpel of Edison, were also on the second team.
