George Pappas

George Pappas, 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 30, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was born in Follansbee, West Virginia, October 28, 1925. He graduated from University of Dayton in 1943. George served in the Army in 1944 and was a veteran of the Korean War. George proudly worked for and retired from the City of Newport Beach after 30 plus years of service as Finance Director. George was a faithful member and served on the usher team at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Jean Pappas; son Tim Pappas; daughter Maria Pappas; Brother Tom Pappas. The family will receive friends 7 to 7:45 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2010 at Pacific View Memorial Park with a Trisagion Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 7, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, Irvine, with graveside services to follow at Pacific View Memorial Park, 3500 Pacific View Dr, Corona Del Mar, 92625. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, 4949 Alton Pkwy, Irvine, CA, 92604.
