High School Roundup: CdM girls’ volleyball clinches outright Surf League crown

The Corona del Mar High girls’ volleyball team celebrated on its home floor with a 25-20, 25-15, 17-25, 25-22 win over Huntington Beach to clinch the Surf League title outright on Thursday night.

Kendall Kipp had 25 kills, and Karly Recker added six kills for CdM (22-11, 5-0 in league). The Sea Kings have won 13 matches in a row.

The Sea Kings have claimed 13 straight outright league titles, 12 of those coming in the Pacific Coast League.

Huntington Beach dropped to 12-12 overall and 1-4 in the league.

Los Alamitos 3, Edison 0: Abby Karich had 15 kills to lead the visiting Griffins to a 25-22, 25-22, 25-22 sweep in a Surf League match on Thursday.

Los Alamitos (14-12, 2-3 in league) moved into a tie for second with Edison (16-13, 2-3) with one league match remaining.

Starr Williams finished with nine kills for Los Alamitos, which finishes league with a home match against CdM on Tuesday.

Edison will be at Huntington Beach in the other league finale.

Calvary Chapel 3, Costa Mesa 0: Delaney Hill had 15 kills to lead the visiting Eagles to at least a share of the Orange Coast League title with a 25-16, 25-21, 25-14 sweep on Thursday.

Makenzie Hill added seven kills and seven blocks for Calvary Chapel (18-6, 8-0 in league). Jamie Killough also had eight kills and four blocks.

Costa Mesa (15-14, 6-2) remains firmly in second place, two games ahead of Saddleback (12-10, 3-4) in the loss column.

Estancia 3, Orange 1: Maddy Murray had 14 kills and two service aces to lead the visiting Eagles to a 25-20, 24-26, 25-14, 25-17 win on Thursday in Orange Coast League play.

Louise Chupeau added 10 kills and six aces for Estancia (10-18, 3-5 in league).

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 17, Fountain Valley 1: Kristina Evloeva, Roxy MacKenzie and Ashley Thomas all swept in singles for the visiting Sea Kings in a Surf League opener on Thursday.

Reece Kenerson and Hannah Jervis swept in doubles for CdM (10-2), which is ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division 1. Shaya Northrup also swept in doubles with partners Bella McKinney and Dylan Matesky.

CdM hosts Los Alamitos on Tuesday, while Fountain Valley (4-9) hosts Newport Harbor.

Newport Harbor 11, Los Alamitos 7: Lane McArdell, Kristin Lindh and Carolyn Altshuler each won two singles sets for the Sailors in Thursday’s Wave League opener at home.

Amra Barton and Avery Wooden won twice in doubles for the Sailors (10-4), as did Sterling Solomon and Riley DeCinces.

Newport Harbor continues league play at Fountain Valley on Tuesday.

Sage Hill 17, Claremont Webb 1: Senior co-captain Miranda deBruyne and junior Miya Stauss swept in singles for the Lightning in Thursday’s San Joaquin League match on the road.

Senior co-captain Morgan Mann and freshman Alexis Ha swept in doubles for Sage Hill (10-4, 9-0 in league). So did the pairings of juniors Maddy Dao and Julia Yuen, as well as junior Kimi Ready and sophomore Lauren Avenatti.

Sage Hill plays at Beckman in a nonleague match Monday. The Patriots are ranked No. 9 in CIF Southern Section Division 1.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Newport Harbor 203, Marina 240: Wa Yeung Tong earned the individual medalist honor after shooting a one-under-par 34 in the Sailors’ Wave League match on the Mesa Linda Course at Costa Mesa Country Club on Thursday.

Newport Harbor’s Sabrina Nesbitt shot a 37, followed by Nicole Nesbitt’s 39.
